Prepper - A Definition

It seems that many people are seeking a proper way to define a prepper. A prepper may come from many different walks of life and prepare in a variety of different ways. This has made it difficult for many people to define a prepper. Here is a simple definition that may help give you a better understanding of what it means to be a prepper.

Definition of a Prepper

Prepper(s) (noun): An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of or prior to any change in normal circumstances or lifestyle without significant reliance on other persons (i.e., being self-reliant) or without substantial assistance from outside resources (govt., etc.) in order to minimize the effects of that change on their current lifestyle.

I like that definition.

There has been a raging debate on the message boards lately over the difference between survivalists and preppers. (mainly because of the media slander of the term "survivalist")

Personally I don't see a big difference, but it's always interesting to hear peoples opinion.

I've seen a lot of different definitions and thought I might as well throw my .02's worth into the pot.

Thanks.

Preppers prepare ahead of time for most everything that may affect their lifestyle.

Survivalists can survive anything through skill and knowledge with little or no preparations.

I personally don't really mind the "survivalist" label but if some people are more comfortable with the label "prepper" then I don't see any problem with it.
I do support the "prepper" movement because the more people that are prepared the better.

Thanks Lucas.

Preppers generally try to prepare ahead of time in case something goes wrong and rely heavily on these preps to survive.

Survivalists can pretty much make do with what's available and can survive pretty much by their wits and skills alone.

I'm a survivalist that also preps but I could survive without my preps.

A survivalist can be a prepper but a prepper isn't necessarily a survivalist.

Just my 2 cents.

As long as I don't kill people and treat my fellow human beings like human beings, and as long as I remember that at no point in my life will I have learned everything there is to learn, then I'm proud of being myself and not trying to be someone else.
